Richard Suarez began his career in 1987 as a Reservation Agent for Northwest Airlines and a member of Local Lodge 1932 in Los Angeles. He then transferred to Los Angeles International Airport where he was elected Grievance Committee Chairman.
Richard was then elected Air Transport District Lodge 143 General Chairman until he was appointed as an Educational Representative to the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center in 2011. Richard was appointed to the IAM Western Territory Staff as a Special Representative in July 2013. He became a Grand Lodge Representative for the IAM Western Territory in 2015.
Richard holds a Master of Science double major degree in Labor Studies – Union Leadership and Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts, and a Bachelor of Arts double major degree in Labor Studies – Union Leadership and Administration from the National Labor College, Silver Spring, Maryland.
Richard has extensive collective bargaining and organizing experience in private and public sector. Suarez has participated in multiple organizing campaigns, political rallies and has served as a lecturer/presenter at the IAM Human Rights Conference in 2011 and 2015. Richard also assists districts and lodges with translating documents and interpreting for non-English speaking members/ potential members as he is bilingual in Spanish and English.
Richard lives in Los Angeles, with his wife Susan.
