Bill Harkum was appointed a Communications Representative in January 2024. He previously served as Local 2424 President from April 2016 until December 2023. He was initiated into the IAM as a photographer at Aberdeen Proving Ground Maryland in 2007.
Harkum helps tell the union’s story to IAM members and the public. His work includes products for internal and external communications, including public relations, media outreach and social media channels.
He previously worked as a news photographer for Fox 45 in Baltimore and ABC 11 Eyewitness News in Raleigh-Durham. Harkum was also a Non-Commissioned Officer in charge of public affairs for the Maryland Air National Guard in Essex, Md.
Bill holds a bachelor’s degree in film and video production from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and is a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving more than 24 on active duty and the Air National Guard.
