Jonathan Battaglia was appointed communications director by International President Robert Martinez Jr. in January 2021 after serving as assistant communications director since January 2017. He initiated into the IAM’s Communications Department in March 2013.
Jonathan’s chief responsibility is guiding the IAM’s internal and external communications, including its public relations, media outreach, numerous publications and social media channels. He strategically advises IAM leadership, officers and staff on communications tactics to accomplish goals in organizing campaigns, negotiations, legislative and political matters and more. He has been quoted and published in numerous national media outlets.
He has taught several communications classes at the IAM’s Winpisinger Center, ranging from newsletter development and messaging to social media and news writing. Jonathan served as an executive vice president of the International Labor Communications Association.
Jonathan holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of South Carolina and is a proud native of the Washington, DC area.
