IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes has appointed Shaun Trude to serve as the newest Grand Lodge Auditor. The appointment will begin on April 1, 2024. Trude’s assignment will be working with the Districts and Locals in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and eastern Pennsylvania.
Trude initiated into IAM Local 1869 in 2010 as a locomotive diesel mechanic with Norfolk Southern in Enola, Pa., and served as the Secretary-Treasurer for over eight years. He also served as the Communicator, developing an annual newsletter. Trude was elected as his Local delegate for the 2017 and 2018 Pennsylvania State Machinist’s Council Convention and the 2018 District 19 Quadrennial Convention.
“Shaun’s training and knowledge in developing training materials brings another key piece to the Auditing Team,” said IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes. “His experience will greatly benefit our Districts and Locals.”
In 2015, Trude became a Worker-Trainer with the ICWUC and CREST in Chemical Emergency Response, Chemical Plume Mapping, and Hazardous Materials Worker Awareness Training for the Railroad Industry. Taking advantage of that new knowledge, Trude assisted with the presentation of numerous Chemical Emergency Response training sessions and Plume mapping software overviews.
After joining the IAM Safety and Health Department in a full-time position, Trude acquired his credential to provide First Aid/CPR/AED training, became an OSHA Authorized General Industry Trainer and earned the designation of a Certified Instructional Trainer and Associate Safety Professional from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. He also attended the 2018 and 2022 NIH National Trainers’ Exchange.
“We are excited to have Shaun as our newest team member in the Grand Lodge Auditors,” said Paul Kendall, IAM Assistant Secretary to the General Secretary-Treasurer. “We are gathering some of the best and brightest people to help ensure the membership’s funds are protected and properly accounted for.”
Trude served in the U.S. Army as a light wheel vehicle mechanic from September 1997 – February 2000. He was stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma, and attached to the 1-17th Field Artillery Regiment, a Battalion of the 75th Field Artillery Brigade. He continues to serve his community as a Volunteer Fire Firefighter and EMT. He also volunteers his time as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor with Boy Scouts of America.
“Shaun is a familiar face across our union and brings a wealth of experience to our Grand Lodge Auditing team,” said Bryan Pinette, IAM Special Assistant to the General Secretary-Treasurer. “He will hit the ground running as we continue to grow our resources to Districts and Locals.”
Trude holds a Bachelor of Science from Shippensburg University.
